Apparently something’s in the water here in So Cal. This morning we talked about how frat boys from USC want to rape you. As a proud UCLA alumna, I was happy to see the seedy underbelly of ‘SC exposed. Sadly, my crosstown rival pride didn’t last long. This young lady posted this video today. It’s a three-minute rant on Asian students at UCLA (or as some students call it, University of Caucasians Lost Among Asians).
These Asian students, who we allow into OUR university (“but that’s fine!” she adds cheerily) have their families over on the weekend! They don’t act American! They talk on their phone in the library! They’re all like “ching chong ling long.” (That is a direct quote from her.)
So, yeah. This girl - despite the fact that she started her video by saying “Now I’m not racist BUT…” - is in fact a racist. And the worst kind of racist: the kind that thinks they aren’t. “I’ve seen Asian people do this before, therefore it is anecdatal proof that they are all this way AND I DON’T LIKE IT!”
I just… I don’t understand why people make videos like this. What was she hoping to accomplish? Did she think this would get circulated to Asian students (the ones she doesn’t know; she says none of this is directed at her FRIENDS who are Asian) and they’d all repent and stop having their parents over on the weekends to cook for them? Webcams are a privilege, not a right.
(Also, and I have to add this, please try to avoid ragging on her looks. OK, she does not look like someone who is deep in thought at a library often, but we don’t need to be the body police. What she said is bad enough that it stands on its own. Focus on that.)
